Isometric exercises are muscle or special muscle groups contractions which are executed without changing the length of the muscle and without moving the articulations. Isometric exercises are an important part of rehabilitation after any kind of damage.

Given the fact that isometric exercises are performed in a static position, they increase the strength in a given muscle area, so the patient will need to perform various exercises at all positions of the articulation to improve the muscular power in all muscles around the articulation.

The main indicator of isometric exercises is the recovery or improvement of the articulation stability after an injury and especially in patients suffering from osteoarthritis, isometric contraction is an excellent solution as it avoids the movement of the affected articulation.

Isometric exercises are an effective rehabilitation technique for athletes as well as in all other patients. The only difference is the intensity, which will be determined for each patient individually.

Isometric exercises are used in some cases:

POST-OPERATIONAL REHABILITATION

  • for patients who have undergone reconstruction of the anterior crucial ligament.
  • for patients who have undergone reconstruction of the posterior crucial ligament
  • for patients who have undergone arthroscopic meniscectomy.
